Description
This is great large circa 1968 Japanese-made Detachment C, USS Shangri-La VAW-11 (Carrier Airborne Early Warning, Squadron 11) jacket patch. The squadron was redesignated from Composite Squadron VC-11 in July 1956, and served on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. The patch reads "Ashford's Aces", a nickname giving a nod to the squadron's lieutenant commander, Bob Ashford. The patch shows a pelican flying at the center of four ace playing cards.
VINTAGE:Circa 1958.
SIZE:Approximately 5-3/8" in diameter with 5-5/8" by 7/8" rocker.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Fully embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester threads, muslin backing.
