ARTIFACT:

This is a 925 Silver Commemorative Medal for the 1953 dedication of the new building for the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Berne, Switzerland. The UPU was established in 1874 and its headquarters has been in the Swiss Capital ever since. The badge reads L'UNION POSTALE UNIVERSELLE INAUGURE SON NOUVEAU BATIMENT A BERNE.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1953.

SIZE:

Approximately 3-5/16" in height and 1-3/8" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

925 silver, silk.

ATTACHMENT:

Safety pin, ribbon, suspension ring.

MARKINGS:

Maker mark (HF or HP?) and silver mark 0925.
