ARTIFACT: This is a 1950s Emergency Squad Inspector hat badge from the Toms River Chemical/Ciba-Geigy facility in Toms River, New Jersey. Toms River unfortunately made the map for having out of the ordinary cancer rates, a situation caused by the decades-long mishandling of manufacturing waste products and water supplies by three companies. Declared a Superfund site in 1983, Toms River had already been a dumping ground for 31 years, and it was not until a half dozen years later that Ciba-Geigy was ordered to begin cleaning efforts. The badge is topped by an eagle and shows firefighting equipment in relief at its center.

VINTAGE: Circa 1950s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-5/16" in height and 1-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold-plated brass with painted lettering.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a medical collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay VCJX11 LABJX10/11
