ARTIFACT:

This is a beautiful enameled silver 1945 USSR Order of the Red Star # 1239757 Awarded to Lieutenant Ivan Stepanovich Viktorov. This Order of the Red Star was awarded on March 14, 1945 to Lieutenant Ivan Stepanovich Viktorov, Komsomol organizer in the 1st Rifle Battalion, 409th Rifle Regiment, 137th Rifle Division, 48th Army. Prior the offensive into East Prussia he devoted a great deal of attention to drafting young men into the ranks of the Komsomol and instilling in them a feeling of hatred towards the enemy. During the offensive the men of the Komsomol showed bravery and courage, for which 20 of them were nominated for decorations. From the start of the offensive Viktorov spent most of his time among the companies, helping the company Komsomol organizers organize their duties. Viktorov inspired the Komsomol members to perform heroic deeds. At the village of Mullen, 7 km southwest of the city of Hohenstein, heavy enemy fire prevented the units from advancing. Viktorov led a group of brave Komsomol members, who through their boldness inspired the other troops to follow them. During this engagement Viktorov himself killed 3 Germans.
Viktorov was born in 1923 in Kamenets-Podolsky Province, joined the army in Sevastopol in August 1941 and was wounded on October 21, 1941 on the Crimea. He stayed in the army after the war (at the very least until 1953). In addition to the Red Star he was awarded and OPW2 in 1944, an OPW1 in 1945, and the Capture of Konigsberg and Victory over Germany medals. He was awarded the 30th Anniversary of the Army jubilee medal in 1948 and a Combat Merit Medal for 10 years of service in 1953.
The enameled silver Order has the Moscow Mint Mark, and it has a late war nickel screwback.
