ARTIFACT: This is a wonderful circa 1945 POW prisoner of war Made Aircraft Aluminum 8th Air Force Lighter of Lt. Norman Moreau 614th Bombardment Squadron, 401st BG Bombardier.

What we have here is a wonderful WWII Trench Art type Cigarette Lighter with the USAAF 8th Air Force insignia on one side, and a pin-up type depiction of a woman on the other side.

The lighter was originally carried by 2nd Lieutenant Norman Moreau SN O-783280, a Bombardier in the 614th Bomb Squadron, 4901st Bomb Group. I purchased the lighter from Lt. Moreau back in the late 1980's, along with many of his other WWII artifacts. At the time, he told me that the lighter had been made by an Italian POW who was located at or near Royal Air Field Deenethorpe (USAAF Station 128), England.

The lighter is beautifully hand formed and engraved out of a thick piece of aircraft aluminum, with some steel parts, and a brass collar around the cotton wick.

It is an iconic piece of WWII history and was a central piece of my WWII Lighter Collection.

VINTAGE: World War II, 1945.

SIZE: Approximately: 2-5/16" in height x 1-3/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Aircraft Aluminum.

ATTACHMENT: N/A.

MARKINGS: N/A.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a WWII trench art collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-RLB-VEJM09/89-24 LHGEX09/10/24

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): The lighter shows minor to moderate wear and patina.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
