This is a circa 1941-1942 lapel pin in the shape of a P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft. Lockheed introduced the P-38 in 1941, and it prevailed as the only fighter produced in the States from the end of 1941 through the end of the war. The pin is gold-filled and has an enameled USAAF insiginia on each wing.
Approximately 5/8" height and 7/8" width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Gold-filled brass, enamel.
Horizontal pin on bar with drop-in locking swivel catch.
This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBJX99 LAAEX6/12
8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The pin shows only light wear and tarnish.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
