ARTIFACT: WWI aviation novel Contact by Charles Codman and published by Little, Brown and Company in Boston, Massachusetts. This copy is a 1937 2nd printing with a handwritten inscription on the inside cover dated 1942. The cover of the book reads: "CONTACT", displays a propeller blade in the center and reads: "CHARLES CODMAN" along the bottom. The book is nearly 250 pages and tells of Codman's training, experiences in France, and imprisonment in Germany.

Charles Codman was born into a wealth New England family in Boston and attended Harvard College. Upon graduation in 1915, he enlisted in the American Field Service and after the US entered WWI became a pilot and as a First Lieutenant Charles saw combat in France while serving as part of the 96th Aero Squadron, he was awarded both the Silver Star and Croix de Guerre. Charles Codman enlisted again during WWII as served in the US Army where, as Major was fluent in French and assigned as translator to accompany Operation Torch invasion of French North Africa.

SIZE: Approximately 8-3/8" x 5-5/8", 247 pages.
