ARTIFACT:
This is a circa 1930 United States Air Corps pilot uniform jacket named to Captain Charles Clarke, a World War I pilot. The jacket has a great wing, collar insignia and shoulder bars, all in bullion. It was made by Harding Uniform and Regalia Company of Boston, Massachusetts.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1930.
SIZE:
Approximately 17-1/2" (armpit to armpit), 23-1/2" from shoulder seam to end of cuff, 15" across back shoulder to shoulder and about 29-1/2" from base of collar to hem. Wing: about 3-1/16" in width and 15/16" in height.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Wool, brushed cotton twill lining, bullion collar insignia, bars and wing, brass and resin buttons.
ATTACHMENT:
Buttons, buttons on pockets with smaller resin buttons under flaps, all insignia sewn on.
MARKINGS:
HARDING UNIFORM AND REGALIA CO. 30 FRANKLIN ST. BOSTON. (on two labels); CHARLES CLARE B. 35 _ SIL 17 W 32 S. (?); stamped numbers inside lining of armpit.
