Description
This is a match box holder made for the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. Shortly before his death, composer John Philip Sousa wrote and orchestrated a march solely for the grand celebration. Washington, the first President of the United States of America, was born in Virginia on February 22, 1932, and died just shy of the turn of the nineteenth century on December 14, 179The holder slides over a match box and has a striking strip along one side.
VINTAGE:Circa 1932.
SIZE:Approximately 1-5/8" in height x 1-1/8" in width x 1/2" in depth.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Silver-plated and painted brass, thin wood lining.
