ARTIFACT:
This is a circa 1931 patriotic German book entitled "Pour le MŽrite - Flieger im Feuer (Flier in Fire)", by Ernst SchŠffer. The book offers biographies on just over a dozen World War I aces awarded with the order of Pour le MŽrite (PLM), including Max Immelmann and Oswald Boelcke. The PLM's origin was as a high Prussian honor bestowed upon both civilian males and military officers. During World War I, airmen also began earning the order, initially for eight kills, but the standards increased as the war wore on. The cbook is in wonderful condition, and its cover is adorned with a beautiful embossed two-dimensional "PLM" Maltese cross. It is signed by presumably its first owner inside the front cover.

178 pages with black and white photographs and some advertising endpapers; approximately 8-1/4" in height and 6" in width and 1" in thickness.

Paper, cloth-wrapped cover with painted emblem.

CONDITION:
8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The book has only some very light aging and minimal evidence of wear: one page (directly before the title page) appears to have been removed; pages are very crisp.
