The book offers biographies on just over a dozen World War I aces awarded with the order of Pour le MŽrite (PLM), including Max Immelmann and Oswald Boelcke. The PLM's origin was as a high Prussian honor bestowed upon both civilian males and military officers. During World War I, airmen also began earning the order, initially for eight kills, but the standards increased as the war wore on. The cbook is in wonderful condition, and its cover is adorned with a beautiful embossed two-dimensional "PLM" Maltese cross. It is signed by presumably its first owner inside the front cover.
