This is a circa 1890s George W. Sherman patented improved sonnette, or clapper instrument. The sonnette was used by US military bands.
VINTAGE:Circa 1890s.
SIZE:Approximately 6-1/4" in length and 1-3/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wood, metal.
ATTACHMENT:Metal band.
MARKINGS:PAT. MAY 6, 1890 engraved on both sides.

CONDITION:7- (Very Fine-): The sonnette has some light to medium wear, especially on one side of the top end.
