Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a rare 19th century United States Mail hat badge from Massachusetts' capital city, Boston. The badge is topped by a decorative scallop shell design and has a low, two digit applied number (38) at its center.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1880s-1890s.

SIZE:

Approximately 2-3/16" in height and 2-7/8" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Plated brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Two loops, numbers held on with brads.

MARKINGS:

None.
