Description
This is a wonderful circa 1870s or 1880s Salisbury, Massachusetts Police badge with an early A.W. Mitchell of Boston maker's mark. The badge is shield-shaped with nice engraving along the border and a large decorative comb-shaped detail at its center. The original owner scratched his initials twice upon the reverse.
VINTAGE:Circa 1870s-1880s.
SIZE:Approximately 2-1/2" in height and 2" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Nickel-plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical safety pin (period replacement).
MARKINGS:A.W. Mitchell Boston; S.B. scratched twice on reverse.
