This is a 3rd United States Cavalry helmet plate from the Indian Wars period (1870s-1880s). The plate is an eagle carrying an E. PLURBIS UNUM banner in its beak and arrows and a branch in its talons. At the center of the plate is a crest emblazoned with the number 3.
VINTAGE:Circa 1870s-1880s.
SIZE:Approximately 4-1/2" in height and 3-3/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Brass.
ATTACHMENT:Three clips (one missing) and two bendable prongs.

CONDITION:7 (Very Fine): Plate shows moderate wear and some light oxidation along with a handsome patina; one clip is missing.
