ARTIFACT:

This is a 1860's-70's Hand Fire Engine (Hand Tub) CHAMPION Name Plate from West Swanzey NH.

According to the Handtub Database at Handtub Junction, USA (www.handtubs.com), The Hand Tub CHAMPION x000D started life in 1853 as the Hand Fire Engine "DEFIANCE #4", engine x000D #473 built by the Hunneman co. of Norwell, MA. And delivered to Rockland, ME. x000D Some time in the following decades it was sold to the West Swanzey, NH Fire x000D Department and renamed “CHAMPION”. It was later donated to the S.P.N.E.A. x000D (Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities) and stored at Jacobs x000D Farm, Norwell, MA. It was sold at auction by the Society in the early 1990’s, x000D and its current location is unknown.
