This is a WWII USS Snapper SS 185 Launch Button. The third SNAPPER (SS-185) was laid down by the Portsmouth (N.H.) Navy Yard on 23 July 1936; launched on 24 August 1937, sponsored by Mrs. Harold R. Stark, wife of Rear Admiral Stark, Chief of the Bureau of Ordnance; and commissioned on 16 December 1937, Lt. F. O. Johnson in command. SNAPPER received six battle stars for World War II service.
VINTAGE:LAUNCH DATE: August 24, 1937.
SIZE:About 1-1/2" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Celluloid button.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal safety-style pin.
