ARTIFACT: This is a postal cover for USS O-9 (SS-70), lost off the Isles of Shoals near Portsmouth, New Hampshire on June 20, 1941. The sub waited for two of its sister subs to perform dives and then took her turn, never to return to the surface. Fifty-six years later the remains of O-9 were located but the final resting place has been kept secret and its status is a Naval burial ground. This card was posted from the USS Triton, which sadly enough, became a lost boat herself when she was presumably ganged up on by three Japanese destroyers and downed on or about March 15, 1943.

VINTAGE: Circa 1941.

SIZE: About 6-1/2 in width by 3-1/2" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Printed paper with black ink.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: Post Mark/Cancellation: JUNE 20, 1941, USS TRITON.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a large collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months.

CONDITION: 7 (Very fine): Light wear at edges and staining on front.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
