Description
This is a World War II Battle of Britain donation ashtray. An engraving in the bottom of the bowl reads: "NEVER IN THE FIELD OF HUMAN CONFLICT WAS SO MUCH OWED BY SO MANY TO SO FEW" Ð WINSTON CHURCHILL. It is also noted that the ashtray was: MADE FROM A ROLLS-ROYCE "MERLIN" ENGINE PISTON AS USED IN THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN Ð AUGUST-OCTOBER 1940. At center is a seal for the RAF and RCAF, and three deep grooves run all around the outer edge.
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 15/16" height and 5-1/4" diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Aluminum with felt pads on bottom.
