Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War I United States Army Railway Artillery Reserve enlisted man uniform with a superb patch, chevron and insignia. Both pieces of the uniform are in a mossy green wool, and the pants are only a bit more yellow in tint than the jacket (photos make them look very yellow).

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

No size tags: jacket: approximately size 34; pants: 26.5" inseam.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Jacket: wool, twill lining, plated brass buttons, wool/felt patch, felt patch embroidered with cotton/silk threads; pants: wool, muslin pocket lining, metal eyelets, cotton laces.

ATTACHMENT:

Jacket: buttons (also on pockets and at shoulders), eyehook at collar; pants: button fly, laces at bottom of pant legs.

MARKINGS:

Jacket: laundry tag; pants: HOLTZ written on lining, U.S. ARMY on button, FIFTH AVE. UNIFORM CO. 84 FIFTH AVE. NEW YORK CONTRACT NO. 4203-N JULY 9, 1919 NEW YORK DEPOT Q.M.C. NO. 12581 with ink stamp over label.

CONDITION:

6 (Fine+): The jacket has several small, scattered spots of mothing on front and reverse and some light to medium tarnish to the insignia; pants have a spot of very light discoloration on one leg, two small holes on the back some medium wear to one pant cuff and wear to the laces, though they remain intact.
