Description
This is a World War I German Naval Silver Wound Badge purchased from Detlev Niemann. The Wound Badge is equivalent to a Purple Heart, and the silver version was awarded to enlistees wounded either three or four times during enemy interaction or who had suffered various other traumas such as the loss of a hand or foot, partial deafness or brain damage. The badge has an oval border in a chain-link design and shows an anchor just behind two crossed swords.
VINTAGE:Circa World War I.
SIZE:Approximately 1-13/16" in height and 1-9/16" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical T-style kick pin with C catch.
