Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a wonderful circa 1944 French Forces of the Interior (Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur) officer's beret badge. The Forces, or FFI, was the formal name given to the French Resistance fighters later in the war as parts of France were liberated. Understandably less organized during the total Nazi Occupation, the Resistance fighters now formed infantry units and became part of the French regular forces. The badge shows a large "V" with the Cross of Lorraine in its crook.
