ARTIFACT: This is a 1944-1945 era badge for the 3rd Algerian Horsemen Reconnaissance Regiment (3e Régiment de Spahis Algériens de Reconnaissance, or RSAR). The group had operations in Italy, France and Germany, and was the reconnaissance unit for the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division in 1944-45. The 3rd was commanded by the leader of the French Expeditionary Corps in Italy, General Juin, as wel as under the umbrella of the 3rd Algerian Infantry Division. The badge shows a stealthy leopard upon a crescent moon and is topped by a red enameled star bearing the number 3.

VINTAGE: Circa 1944-1945.

SIZE: Approximately 1-7/8" in height by 1-5/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass with enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: None.
