ARTIFACT: This is a very rare and early (circa 1910s) Santa Barbara County, California Deputy Sheriff badge. The badge is shield-shaped and has remnants of gold wash upon nickel. It was made by Los Angeles Rubber Stamps company and has an early maker mark on reverse. The lightweight badge has very finely engraved bordering with an eagle at the top. The center bears the small stamped words SANTA BARBARA CO.

VINTAGE: Circa 1910s.

SIZE: Approximately 1-7/8" in height and 1-1/2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel with remnants of gold wash.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin with saddle.

MARKINGS: L.A. RUB. STP. CO. (very early LA Rubber Stamp Co. maker mark).

CONDITION: 6 (Fine+): The badge has had its share of wear, but there are remnants of gold wash still on the nickel.
