ARTIFACT: This is a very rare United States Army 5th New York Cavalry "D" Troop officer's horse's breast collar from the Civil War. The main octagonal plate shows the seal of the State of New York, and the officer's information is scratched on its leather backing. There is a leader strap as well as a strap that goes around the horse's neck, both with buckles. The portion of the strap that would rest on the back of the horse's neck is joined to the rest of the strap by two large rings and has some decorative stitched detail.

VINTAGE: Circa Civil War.

SIZE: Plate: approximately 4" by 4"; lower portion of strap: 23"; upper looped portion of strap: 49" total.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass, leather.

ATTACHMENT: Strap, rings, buckles.

MARKINGS: NY 5th CAV "D"-TROOP on plate backing.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. P-DB-50/VEGX12 LABJJX10/12

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The collar is in good condition with supple straps and light to medium wear to the central plate; the backing of the plate is completely loosened.
