Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a very early Sons of Veterans of the United States of America lapel pin in gilt-decorated porcelain on a gold-filled frame. The SV was formed in 1881 by the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) in order for the sons of veterans to be able to carry on their legacy, and the name was later amended to include "Union".

VINTAGE:

Circa 1880s.

SIZE:

Approximately 9/16" in diameter.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gilt decorated porcelain, gold-filled frame, nickel backing base.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical T-style pin with C catch.

MARKINGS:

None.
