Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a United States Army Chief Commander Legion of Merit breast star, an award usually bestowed upon either chiefs of state or heads of government, native or foreign, for exceptionally meritorious behavior. The star has five points and rests on a web of interlocking arrows and a wreath. At center are thirteen white stars against a field of blue.

VINTAGE:

Circa late 1940s Ð early 1950s.

SIZE:

2-3/4" in height and 2-7/8" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gold-plated brass with multi-colored enameling.

ATTACHMENT:

Horizontal kick pin with come-under locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS:

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
