ARTIFACT:
This is a Unique WWII WWII Luftwaffe Side Cap, as worn with Romanian Observer Badge Affixed.
A very unique piece, recently acquired from an old collector, who had purchased it from a 101st Airborne Veteran 25+ years ago.
The 101st Vet's name has sadly been lost to time, and there is no name inside the cap, or on the back of the badge, to let us know the ID of the Luftwaffe Foreign Volunteer who wore this hat 75+ years ago.
What we have here is a typical Issue, nicely used, Luftwaffe Other Ranks Side Cap, in wool, with cotton lining, worn in a very a-typical way: with a Romanian Air Force Observer Badge pinned to the side.
Interestingly, this is a somewhat unique variation of the Romanian Air Force Observer Badge. Usually these are found with an upside down T pin and tube catch. This set-up is very British in construction, with a V spring pin and C catch, though definitely NOT British made. There was a German firm, B.B.&Co. that put a pin similar to this on the back of the Gallipoli Star in WWI, quite possibly the same maker. But they could not have made many.

8 (Excellent): The cap shows moderate wear, no moth holes, badge shows nice patina and all the enameled areas remain intact, overall excellent condition.
