ARTIFACT:
An absolutely stunning example of this well-known badge. In use for over 100 years, since 1912, the badge is seen available for sale from time to time, but this is one of the earliest and finest examples I have ever seen. Known as the 3rd Department issue, the hard-fired black enamel is perfect, and the early serifed number sits large and bold on its panel, which, coupled with the tongue type C catch on back, places this badge at the earliest period of use. The condition of this badge is amazing, with a lovely old toning to the nickel, but very little wear. There appear to be the initials of the original wearer scratched on back: "G A". The top of the badge features a panther crouched in the grass, Fort Worth's nickname is Panther City. The center of the badge displays a raised five point star and surrounding it reads: "POLICE FORT WORTH" and the base of the badge is numbered: "267". It would be nearly impossible to improve on this badge!
