ARTIFACT: Scarce WWII United States Army Air Forces 3rd Combat Cargo Squadron 1st C. C. Group, 10th Air Force CBI-made, unofficial jacket patch. The padded, wool felt, chain stitch patch depicts a flaming skull against a black background. USAAF Combat Cargo Groups were at operational capacity in a moment's notice, making the groups 100% ready at all times. Officially authorized in 1944, the 1st Combat Cargo Group was stationed in the CBI Theater of operations after four months of training. While in the CBI Theater the 1st Combat Cargo Group was involved in the India-Burma, China Defensive, Central Burma, and China Offensive campaigns. The 3rd Combat Cargo Sq. was constituted on April 11, 1944, activated on April 15, 1944, redesignated 328th Troop Carrier Squadron on September 29, 1945 and inactivated on December 20, 1945. The group flew the C-47 aircraft.

VINTAGE: Circa WWII.

SIZE: Approximately 4-3/8" in width x 5-3/8" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Embroidered (chain stitch) on wool felt, cotton/silk/polyester threads, padding, cotton backing.

ATTACHMENT: To be sewn on to flight garment.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The patch shows minor age/storage wear and soiling and moth nips, the stitching is beautiful and overall the colors remain bright.
