Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa World War I American Red Cross overseas cap. It has a nicely enameled square red cross badge and gutta percha buttons on the front as worn by stateside ambulance drivers during World War I. The weave of the wool gives the hat a slightly denim look.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

No size tag: approximate size 7-1/2; badge is about 1-1/16" square.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Woven wool, silk lining, enameled and gilt brass, gutta percha.

ATTACHMENT:

Bendable prongs on badge, two buttons on front, hook-and-eyes holding "ear flaps" up.

None.
