ARTIFACT: Scarce Spanish-American War New York state service medal #'d 6357, Type 2 by Dieges and Clust, the purple, red, and yellow/gold ribbon is in usual state of decay. The front of the medal displays a soldier carrying his gun and field gear in nice relief detail, the reverse shows a sword down the center and surrounding it reads: "TO ONE WHO SERVED THE NATION WITH HONOR 1898 – 1899 – 1900" and along the top it reads: "AWARDED BY THE STATE OF NEW YORK". The reverse of the pinback shows a nice maker's mark and displays the number: "6357".

VINTAGE: Circa Span-Am War

SIZE: Approximately 2-7/8" x 1-1/2"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Bronze, silk ribbon, brass pinback

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with 'C' type catch.

MARKINGS: "DIEGES & CLUST", "6357"

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The medal shows moderate to heavy storage/age wear, the ribbon displays commonly seen deterioration, colors remain bright, planchet has overall handsome patina.
