ARTIFACT:
This is a scarce, large size pin for the 1936 Olympics as worn by the German sailors of U-394 and U-710. The 1936 Olympics were held in Germany, both Summer and Winter. U-710 was launched on May 12, 1942 and met her end off of Iceland less than one year later, bombed by a British B-17. U-394 was launched June 19, 1943 and was sunk off Norway, also by the British, on September 2, 1944. No one survived from either U-boat. The pin was made by Carl Poellath.

Circa 1936.
SIZE:
Approximately 11/16" in height and 1-3/4" in length.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Plated brass, enamel.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal pin with C catch.
