ARTIFACT:
This is a copy of "Handcar White: A History of the Second Battalion, 328th Infantry European Theatre of Operations", by Sergeant Ralph A. Anderson Jr. The title of the book comes from the nickname of the Second Battalion: "White". The 328th Infantry Regiment was part of the 26th "Yankee" Division, originally out of Massachusetts. Sent directly to France, the regiment was attached first to the 9th Army but then was needed to bolster the 3rd Army and was reassigned shortly after they saw their first action. They then engaged in the Battle of the Bulges and at Ardennes, among other conflicts in Germany and Austria. This history was published in 1945 in Czechoslovakia, where the 328th was finally installed. In addition to the regiment's history, the book contains medal lists, award lists and bios of the men, as well as black and white illustrations by Captain Stephen Herman.
