Description
This is a scarce and early (circa 1930) United States Army "Panama Hellgate" shoulder patch: it is in an early design without "PANAMA" across the top. This is an "unauthorized" patch that was in use from 1922 until 194The patch is in bright red wool embroidered in yellow thread, and shows a portcullis at center representing the Isthmus of Panama. A small paper tag reading "Panama Hellgate" is taped on the back.
VINTAGE:Circa 1930.
SIZE:Approximately 3-1/8" in height and 2-3/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wool felt embroidered in cotton/silk threads, partial mesh backing.
ATTACHMENT:None.
MARKINGS:Paper tag reading "Panama Hellgate" taped to reverse.
