Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a scarce set of three circa 1950s or 1960s Boy Scouts of Japan (BSJ) patches. Scouting was introduced to Japan in 1913, shortly after its 1907 birth in England, and became officially organized in 192One patch is diamond-shaped and reads "BSJ" over the scouting insignia. The other two patches are arcs: the larger one reads "TOKYO" and the other bears some Japanese characters.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1950s-1960s.

SIZE:

Large arc: approximately 1" in height and 3-1/2" in width; small arc: approximately 15/16" in height and 2-3/16" in width; patch: approximately 2-5/8" in height and 2-1/2" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Arcs: woven cotton embroidered in silk/cotton, newsprint backing; patch: silk embroidered in silk.
