Description
Scarce circa 1963 vintage Portsmouth, New Hampshire Badger Creameries ½ gallon milk bottle with original "Plasti-Grip" handle. The front of the ½ gallon reads: "BADGER FARMS' CREAMERIES" in orange painted details and the base reads: "REG. SEALED UGP 0B". The reverse features a painted image of a glass and a sunburst in orange detail and surrounding it reads: "FOR ALL SEASONS DELICIOUS REFRESHING MILK" and the base reads: "HALF GALLON LIQUID 238" and the bottom shows the number "63 X". The handle reads: "SUN IND. INC. CLEVE. OHIO PLASTI GRIP", "PAT. D 184315 & 3000527 RD 1958 48 - 51 - 56 H6". Established in 1877, Badger Farms Creameries initially pasteurized milk for local farms and then later began to produce and deliver dairy foods and milk. Portsmouth was not the only plant that Badger Creameries owned, there was also one in Newbury, Massachusetts and until milk delivery collapsed, the company ran hundreds of trucks that delivered all over the Seacoast. The creamery was on the corner of Bow and Daniel St., now a parking lot near St. John's Church.
