ARTIFACT: This is a rare World War II Australian-made jacket patch for the United States Marine Corps VMF-211 (Fighter Squadron 211), also known as the "Wake Island Avengers". The squadron was at Wake Island the day after the Pearl Harbor attack and more than half of their aircraft was promptly destroyed by the Japanese. The squadron held out and eventually repulsed the enemy. The patch is embroidered on wool.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 4-1/8" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Wool embroidered in cotton/silk threads, treated paper backing.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Marine Corps collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MBJJX11 LADEJX2/12 SAJJJX5/15

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The patch shows some light wear with a few small moth bites.
