Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a rare pair of cold weather/high altitude aviator's goggles used both by United States Navy pilots as well as bomber crews flying over the North Sea. The goggles are fur lined and have a continuation rather than a cut-out of the leather mask portion to cover the wearer's nose.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War I.

SIZE:

Approximately 6" in length and 2" in height (across lenses only, lying flat).

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Glass, leather, fur, elasticized cotton, nickeled brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Strap, buckles.

None.

CONDITION:

6- (Fine): The goggles have some discoloration to the left lens; some holes/worn areas in cloth on side of lenses; strap is fragile, but still intact.
