ARTIFACT:
Rare Vietnam War United States Army Special Forces Command and Control North Recon Team ASP pocket patch. This example was machine made in Vietnam and shows a five point star suspended from a parachute and centered between embroidered wings with a red-tipped sword diagonally situated in the center of the chute and wings. The patch reads: "SILENT BY NIGHT CCN RT ASP".
The patch was "Made for Collectors" in-country, commissioned by Cecil B. Smyth, who had many unit patches made in Saigon during the Vietnam War to offer for sale to collectors back in the States. As such it is a Period Patch, made in Vietnam, for collectors.
VINTAGE:
Circa Vietnam War.
SIZE:
Approximately 4-1/16" in height x 3-1/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Embroidered twill, cotton/polyester/cotton thread, gauze backing.
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn onto uniform.
MARKINGS:
"1.75" in ink on reverse
