ARTIFACT: This is a rare circa late 1940s lieutenant rank badge for the Plant Protection Division at General Motors' Hydra-Matic plant in Livonia, Michigan. When the Hydra-Matic plant burned down in 1953, it became the worst industrial fire ever on American soil up until that point. The plant was a model of post-War technology when it went up in flames, caused by an accident with flammable liquid outside of the building. First used by GM in their 1940 auto models, the Hydra-Matic was a transmission that was hugely popular at the time. The badge has a great luster and weight.

VINTAGE: Circa late 1940s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-15/16" in height and 2-1/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt brass, painted details.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an automobile collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay VAJX98 LAFEX8/12 SeAIEX3/15

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The badge shows only light wear to the paint and minor tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
