Description
This is a rare circa late 1940s lieutenant rank badge for the Plant Protection Division at General Motors' Hydra-Matic plant in Livonia, Michigan. When the Hydra-Matic plant burned down in 1953, it became the worst industrial fire ever on American soil up until that point. The plant was a model of post-War technology when it went up in flames, caused by an accident with flammable liquid outside of the building. First used by GM in their 1940 auto models, the Hydra-Matic was a transmission that was hugely popular at the time. The badge has a great luster and weight.
