Description
Rare, late WWII United States Army Air Forces 21st Fighter Squadron, 413th Fighter Group, 20th Air Force (later the 8th AF) large, theater-made, hand-painted on leather patch. The patch shows a fierce black panther in red, white, and black in the center of a blue and yellow painted circle with a red bolt diagonally crossing the top left (viewer's left) corner, the entire circle is outlined in red and white. The 21st Fighter Squadron was: Constituted on 5 - Oct. - 1944, Activated on 15 - Oct. - 1944, and Inactivated on 15 - Oct. - 1946, the squadron flew P-47 aircraft and were engaged in the Western Pacific Theater: Japan, Eastern Mandates, China, and Ryukyus.

CONDITION:8- (Very Fine&emdash;Excellent): The patch shows minor to moderate wear, one crease through the center that does not detract and looks to be part of the leather rather than from being folded, small area of old adhesive on reverse, much of the hand-painted details remain, leather is soft and supple, and colors are vibrant.
