Description

ARTIFACT:

Rare Korean War United States Navy VF-192 "Flying Dragons" jacket patch. Formerly VF-153 and then VF-151, the squadron was re-designated as VF-192 while on board the USS Boxer on February 15, 1950. During the Korean War the squadron flew F4U Corsairs, most famously in successful nighttime missions intercepting enemy supply flow. They also participated in several other missions, including the destruction of the Hwachon Reservoir Dam and hydroelectrical plants on the Yalu River. The squadron's now famous "Flying Dragon" insignia was worn in combat as well as in the filming of the Academy Award-winning 1954 movie "The Bridges at Toko-Ri"

Fully embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester thread, gauze backing.

CONDITION:

9- (Excellent+): The patch shows minor wear, small spot of scrapbook residue on reverse, colors remain bright, overall excellent condition.
