Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a very rare early World War II United States Navy V-5 pilot training program inductee insignia from the localized unit at Oshkosh State Teachers' College in Wisconsin. The pin is a small winged anchor in gilt sterling silver. It shows an Indian head at its center and reads FIGHTING FOXES upon an enameled ring. On its reverse, the pin shows three Robbins "British Style Hallmarks" used until about 1920 (new old stock).

VINTAGE:

Circa early World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 1/2" in height and 1-1/2" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gilt sterling silver, enamel.

ATTACHMENT:

Single screw post with disc backing.

MARKINGS:

Three marks (Robbins "British Style Hallmarks" used until about 1920 - new old stock) and STERLING on reverse of pin; STERLING on backing.

ITEM NOTES:

7+ (Very Fine+): The pin shows some light wear and small areas of tarnish.
