Description
This is a rare paperback three volume set entitled "Engineer History Mediterranean Theater Fifth Army": Volume I, Volume II and the Appendices. These were confidential upon publication but in 1948 they earned "Declassified" stickers. The volumes cover the Fifth Army Engineers' Mediterranean Campaign in great detail. The 5th was activated December 1, 1943 with the express purpose of facilitating difficult over-water maneuvers. The 5th was initially to serve in North Africa: Algeria and French Morocco, with a close eye on Spanish Morocco. However, the Italy Campaign accelerated to the forefront and the 5th's attention swiftly shifted eastward. While the first two volumes consist mostly of black-and-white photographs, maps and text, the Appendices contain no photographs but have instead many maps, flowcharts, tables and information on subjects such as daily water consumption.
