Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a rare circa 1930s unofficial German American Bund Siegrune (victory rune) pocket knife with mother-of-pearl slabs. The Bund was a pro-Nazi, pro-Hitler American organization in existence before and during World War II. Possession of this knife frequently got its owners, mostly youths, into trouble with the law. Some savvy lawyers saved their clients by exposing the double standard that protected knife-carrying Boy Scouts, but because of the controversy the knife remained only "unofficial". The Bund used the "victory rune" symbol on all of their flags and pennants. The knife is by Utica Cutlery Company and has a maker mark at the base of one blade.
