Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a rare 1904 Louisiana Purchase Expo (aka 1904 St. Louis' World's Fair) official souvenir medal. The Louisiana Purchase was completed in 1803 by an agreement between Thomas Jefferson and France's Napoleon. The exposition intended to mark the land transfer's 100th anniversary, but was delayed a year. The medal is in gilt bronze and hangs from a red, white and blue ribbon. The front of the medallion shows the two leaders in profile while the reverse shows a map of the United States.

Circa 1904.

SIZE:

Approximately 3" in height and 1-3/8" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gilt bronze, silk.

ATTACHMENT:

Horizontal safety-style pin, suspension ring.

CONDITION:

7 (Very Fine): The badge has some small spots of light wear and there is some minor fraying to the reverse of the ribbon.
