Description
This is a skier's badge from the United States Army's Recreational Center at Garmisch, Germany, at the foot of the Alps. Garmisch was joined with its neighbor Partenkirchen in order to make a new town for the 1936 Olympics venue, and afterward became the base camp for the elite "Edelweiss" troops. In 1945, the ski town became a U.S. military garrison. The insignia is beautifully enameled and has a Deco design.
VINTAGE:Circa 1946 (post-World War II).
SIZE:Approximately 1-1/16" in height and 15/16" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Gold-plated brass, enamel.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical safety-style pin with saddle.
