ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1900 Pinkerton's United States Detective Agency six-point star detective badge along with period paperwork, including a Certificate of Membership and a letter of certification for one Charles H. McIlvain.

This badge was not issued by the Famous agency founded by Allan Pinkerton; the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, but by a copy-cat agency that played off the famous name, which was eventually sued by Pinkerton National Detective Agency and forced to Cease & Desist. 

VINTAGE: Circa 1900-1904.

SIZE: Documents are various sizes; badge is 1-7/8" in height and 1-5/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated brass with black painted lettering; paper (laminated).

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin with a "C" catch.

MARKINGS: Certificate of Membership has a Pinkerton's embossed stamp.
