Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a photographic grouping including two albums and a some loose photographs of Lieutenant Theodore S. Van Veghten, United States 9th Aero Squadron. Van Veghten was a World War I pilot who died in a 1924 plane accident at McCook Field in Dayton, Ohio. The albums contain mostly family shots, but have a couple of wonderful PC-sized shots of Van Veghten in uniform and in flight gear, along with uniform shots taken with family, and some cockpit barnstorming shots. There are also some nice large aerial photos of Bolling Field and the Washington DC area, and a couple of great large images of an early motor yacht. The grouping also includes some loose photographs: there is one fabulous large 5" x 7-1/2" photo of Van Veghten in which he is clearly wearing a classic Dunham wing. A wonderful grouping!
