ARTIFACT:
7x9" black and white Associated Press photo of three P-40s in formation (53, 13, 59). Original credits present but detached. Grainy image (most likely from being enlarged). 1st Pursuit Squadron emblem identifiable on p-40 #13.
Artifacts that belonged to members of the original Flying Tigers are extremely hard to acquire and rarely come up for sale. Often collectors lucky enough to acquire anything from the AVG will hold onto the pieces for their entire lifetime and families rarely let these artifacts go if they are lucky enough to still possess them. FLYING SHARK IN FORMATION
CALLED THE 'FLYING SHARKS' BECAUSE OF THE SHARK FACES PAINTED ON THE FUSELAGE, THREE PLANES PILOTED BY MEMBERS OF THE AMERICAN VOLUNTEER GROUP IN CHINA SCOUT THE AIR LANES FOR ANY SIGN OF JAPANESE RAIDERS.
